New Infographic: U.S. Federal Land Withdrawals

Posted on January 13, 2017 by Minerals Make Life

The federal government currently owns and manages roughly 640 million acres of land, known as federal lands. Unfortunately, these lands are typically restricted from mining and minerals exploration. In 2016, the U.S. Bureau of Land Management proposed withdrawing an additional 10 million acres based on an ill-informed recommendation from the Department of the Interior. Then, in December of 2016, 1.35 million more acres of federal lands were designated for national monuments. Frivolous federal land withdrawals significantly inhibit the mining industry and U.S. economy as a whole as these lands are significant sources of mineral wealth.
