Last weekend, Minerals Make Life recognized National Miners Day, a day dedicated to America’s miners and their indispensable role in powering and building our nation.
“Our miners take great pride in what they do, and rightfully so. They are the front-end of the supply chain for what every sector of our economy needs to succeed. Our nation depends upon them getting it done and getting it done right—safely, reliably and efficiently,” said National Mining Association’s president and CEO, Hal Quinn.
While minerals are our business, people are the true core of U.S. minerals mining—both our employees whose dedication and expertise power the state-of-the-art mining industry and our neighbors across the country whose support is invaluable. Without our miners, many of the life-saving medical devices and medications, renewable energy technologies and defense equipment that rely on minerals would cease to exist. As the manufacturing of many of these goods returns to our shores, America will require even more minerals and metals, which means increased extraction and the generation of thousands of new jobs in mining.
Today, the U.S. minerals mining industry supports more than 1.2 million jobs and mining is one of a handful of sectors that consistently creates jobs, adding between 11,000 and 13,000 jobs per year.
In honor of National Miners Day, U.S. mining salutes the men and women who have pursued a career in mining. Learn more about the people at the core of U.S. mining here.
