Wisconsin state Sen. Frank Lasee, R-Ledgeview, authored an op-ed in the Manitowoc Herald Times Reporter, underlining the critical role of mining—particularly iron mining—in the state. Pointing toward the Animikie Basin—which contains the single richest field of iron ore in the world—Sen. Lasee underscores the economic vitality that could come from developing this area, stating, “The proposed mine in northern Wisconsin has enough iron ore to mine for the next 100 years to bring thousands of jobs, with salaries of approximately $80,000 a year.” Sen. Lasee also noted that each mining job will create two to three jobs in other industries in northern Wisconsin.
