The commissioner of the Alaska Department of Natural Resources sees minerals development as a major opportunity for the state. In 2010, mineral exploration investment in Alaska exceeded $260 million—accounting for about one-third of all exploration in the country—and recently, Gov. Parnell laid out a strategy to increase mineral development in the state.
